Margin vs Markup — what's the difference?
Margin is profit as a % of the selling price. A 40% margin means 40 cents of every RM1 you collect is profit. Markup is profit as a % of your cost. A 67% markup on a RM60 item gives you RM100 selling price. Same deal — different perspectives. Retailers typically think in margins; manufacturers often think in markups.
